Micro-Mani!

My daughter was really excited about her sparkly magenta manicure this weekend. She exclaimed that her nails were just like jewels and I agree!

Here’s a close-up of Evie’s nail colour. It’s called Lotus Elise and it’s from Rescue Beauty Lounge. RBL polishes are 5-free, so they don’t have any of the scary chemicals that nail polishes used to include. I recommend checking the ingredients of any cosmetic product before allowing a child to use it. It’s probably not such a bad idea to take a look at the ingredients before using cosmetics on yourself as well.

don’t mind the scuffs, someone struggles slightly with the “don’t touch anything until they’re dry” bit.

I’m sporting “Oh Slap!”, also from RBL. What can I say, RBL just had their half-off sale. 😅 I was tempted to try Lotus Elise on myself as well, but unfortunately, this colour isn’t quite office appropriate. Oh Slap! on the other hand, is a translucent pink jelly that’s very wearable anywhere. I have two coats on here, but I think that it would look better with a third.

cutest manicure model ever.

Best of Glossybox

Hi All! I know that I’ve been a bad blogger. While I can’t guarantee a monumental change in blog-sponsibility, I can say that I’ve been inspired by the beauty blogs that I follow, to post some summer makeup and product reviews.

This post (as the title indicates) is about Glossybox favs. I have been getting Glossybox for about two years now. Some boxes are definitely better than others but, overall, it has been a good way to try a variety of products (not that I need any more makeup).

The latest box came with a total surprise standout, a face cleanser/exfoliator that has been like an answered prayer for my summer skin dilemmas. I work in an air-conditioned office where the windows don’t open. Although I have a small humidifier and utilize spray-moisturizers throughout the day, dry skin can be a problem.

Cut-to weekend. The flip-side of my summer skin woes is that we just moved to a house right next to a sandy beach. I am over the moon about this, but let me tell you, my skin has not been thanking me. SPF 50, why are you failing me?

So I am really digging this Glamglow Youthcleanse Daily Clearing Cleanser. As you can see below, It has a mud-like texture. It also has small exfoliating particles that you can’t really see too well in photos. The best part about this stuff is that it removed all of my makeup! cleansers rarely take off all of my mascara/eyeliner, but this one sure did!

The next-best product from the August Glossybox was the lip balm from Lollipops Makeup. It says that rich in anti-oxidants and made from “a Mexican plant known for its regenerative capabilities.” Hmmm, sort of mysterious, Glossybox. Anyway, I am liking this stuff so far. It is colorless and has a sweet candy flavor. I have been using it before bed or under lipstick. So far no complaints!

Other items from the August 2015 Glossybox include an eye-liner pencil with a spongy tip (okay), a mascara, and nail polish. Everything was usable. If you subscribe to Glossybox, you will certainly never have to buy black eye-liner again!

So long ’till next time,

April Beauty Picks

This past month I have completely changed my beauty routine. Most of this is thanks to an amazing blog that I stumbled upon, Maskcara. Cara Brook is awesome! She taught me all about the wonders of highlighting and contouring, blending eyeliner, and wen. I have already recommended this blog to many friends. Even my sister, the makeup artist was impressed. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite beauty discoveries from the past month.

Pictured above : Maskcara IIId foundation in light (open) and medium, It Cosmetics dual ended brush, Tiger Balm, Lush cosmetics Aqua Marina face and body wash, and coconut oil.

IIId foundation highlights and contours while providing medium coverage. The darker colors are cooler and the lighter colors tend to be yellow based, which worked great under eyes and in any areas with redness. I have dry skin and this stuff was not drying at all. For oily skin I would recommend finishing with a mineral powder. Now, at first I was using this over my regular foundation, but I found that I just didn’t need that much coverage. It works better alone, over primer in my opinion. Now be forewarned there is a bit of a HAC learning curve involved with this product, but Maskcara does a great job of explaining how to use IIId with video tutorials. Practice makes perfect!

The It Cosmetics brush was a suggestion from Cara. It is an awesome foundation brush. My only gripe is that it seems to suck up the foundation and I feel that it wastes much more product than applying with fingers or a sponge (i.e. Beauty Blender). This is an issue because the IIId foundation in medium seems to be perpetually sold out on Maskcara.

I’ve been using Tiger Balm for sore muscles after skating. Perfecting my routine for Nationals right now, and I’ve taken more than a few dives. I actually wasn’t planning on including this, it just happened to be on the table.

Aqua Marina is a face wash that I’m glad I stumbled upon. I was perusing the local Lush store when this caught my eye. I originally bought it as a body wash, but it is better suited for the face. You mix a little with water and it ends up with a creamy-muddy texture. I still need to use makeup remover wipes, but this stuff is great in the morning. I’ve even tried using it as a mask with decent results. Here is a close up for texture:

It is a mud-like substance wrapped in seaweed. I think that I like this cleanser so much because it is not over-drying, oh, and it reminds me of mermaids.

Finally, the coconut oil. Okay, why didn’t I try this stuff out sooner? So far I have used it as a hair mask and split-end treatment with great results and I’ve made coconut lavender lip balm, which was super easy. There are so many great uses for coconut oil!

Well that was the April beauty breakdown. I have actually tried many other products this month. I’m planning to post more if I can stick with the blogger thing this time. I guess we will see!

Coconut Oil Hair Mask

Okay, I know that I’ve been MIA for awhile . . . but this post was too good not to share! It called me back 🙂  Now, I have tried this and must say that it is the only thing that worked on my bleached locks. The ends actually looked like hair again instead of a mass of tangled frizz. The only difference in my recipe was that I mixed in rosewood and lavender essential oils.

Coconut Oil Mask 7

Today I’m blogging about something that is super important to me and I wanted to share it with all of you because A. you rock and B. why not?  Hair and makeup are a huge passion of mine. I can spend hours on end recreating makeup looks and different hair styles.  I am constantly trying out new products and always learning new ways to keep my hair as healthy as possible. I’m going to let you in on a little secret…I grow back gray!! UGH! I hate it! While it’s not 100%, it’s a good 70% grow back which means that every 3 weeks I need to color my hair. All those chemicals can really do some damage so it’s really important for me to take good care of my locks.  After doing some research I found the easiest and all natural way to help keep my hair not only…
